Why men being mean to you at work is good
I was pretty young when my male leaders starting getting in my face at work. As a young woman in my early 20’s, I was extremely thrown off by grown men screaming at me, punching whiteboards, throwing erasers and sending me terrifying emails telling me stay in my lane or else.
I spent a lot of time haranguing myself and wondering what I was doing wrong.
I wish so badly I could time travel back to that twenty-something girl crying on her steering wheel on her lunch break and tell her then what I know now.
I would tell her "You are not doing anything wrong. You are doing everything exactly right. And that’s why they’re coming for you."
When men start to come for you, they are treating you like an equal.
They are starting to see you as a worthy adversary.
I know this feels like the most counter-intuitive idea in the world, but it’s the truth.
Conversely, men being “nice” to you can actually be a bad sign.
Stop worrying about being liked and start worrying about being respected.
When that first male comes and snarls in your face, that’s when you know you’ve made it!
